Medication management is a critical process in care environments, and ensuring data integrity is paramount. The Access Medication Management server acts as the primary source for all data, including resident orders from your pharmacy. This data is securely stored and backed up in multiple ways to guarantee its safety. MedAssure enhances this system by enabling medication administration even when internet connectivity is lost, ensuring continuity of care without compromising data accuracy.

How MedAssure works

MedAssure copies essential data from the primary server to your laptop, including resident details, drug orders, and login information. This synchronisation occurs regularly throughout the day, ensuring your device always has the latest information.

Before starting a drug round, Access Medication Management retrieves all necessary data from your computer, which holds a copy of the primary database. This process works regardless of internet status.

As medications are administered, results are stored in a local cache. Every 30 seconds, these transactions are sent to the primary server. If successful, the cache is cleared. If the internet is unavailable, the cache retains the data and continues attempting to synchronise until connectivity is restored.

Whilst working offline, medication round data isn't backed up until it synchronises with the primary server. Regular internet connectivity ensures data security and system integrity.

Enable MedAssure

MedAssure should only be enabled on devices used for administering medications. Administrative computers, such as those used by supervisors or managers, perform best without MedAssure enabled.

To enable MedAssure:

  1. Click Admin Options.

  2. Click Options.

  3. Select Enable MedAssure on this Computer.

  4. Click Save.

Each device must be enabled individually. After enabling, restart the application. When logged in, a green status box with the word Online appears at the bottom left corner, confirming synchronisation.

What happens when the internet is down?

If connectivity is lost, you can continue administering medications. Transactions remain cached until the connection is restored, at which point they are uploaded to the server and updates are downloaded to your device. During extended outages, the cache may accumulate hundreds of transactions, but these will synchronise automatically once online.

Features unavailable offline

While offline, the following features aren't accessible:

  • Messaging.

  • Reordering.

  • Reporting.

  • Updating resident information or orders.

  • Administrative functions such as password changes and adding users.
