Add PRN protocols to residents

In this article, we explain how to to add PRN protocols to a resident’s profile.

As good practice, care homes should have a clear record of all the necessary information for any PRN (when required) medication. Clear records enable staff to make informed decisions about when to administer. Adding a PRN protocol allows the team to enter additional information about the medication and how it is to be administered.

To add PRN protocols, follow these steps:

  1. Click Residents/Orders.

  2. Click on the necessary resident.

  3. Click Info Orders.

  4. To add adhoc PRN Protocols, go to step 6. Otherwise, click Pick from List.

  5. Select the appropriate protocols.

  6. Click OK and the selected protocols appear as a list.

  7. Click Add to activate the lower half of the screen.

  8. Choose the appropriate option from the Category drop-down.

  9. In the Description field, type the PRN Protocol.

  10. If the information needs to appear on the MAR sheet and the Med Round, select the relevant checkboxes.

  11. Click Save.
