Sometimes you may want to change a routine medication to PRN or vice versa. However, this isn't recommended because changing the schedule type affects the MAR sheet report, as the medication has already been administered under its original schedule. Alternatively, it's recommended to discontinue the existing medication and add it again with the new schedule. By doing this, you achieve the desired result without affecting historical MAR records.

Discontinue the current medication

To begin by discontinuing the current medication, follow these steps:

  1. Click Residents/Orders.

  2. Click on the resident., then click Orders.

  3. Click on the medication you want to change.

  4. Click in the End Date field and choose an appropriate date.

  5. Click Save.

Add the medication with the new schedule

To continue by adding the medication with the new schedule, follow these steps:

  1. Click Add, then click Medication.

  2. Under the Everything tab, enter the medication name.

  3. Select the new schedule type, such as PRN.

  4. Click Save.
