Managing medication orders accurately is essential for ensuring residents receive the correct treatment at the right time. In some cases, a single medication order needs to be split into multiple parts, such as when routine doses and PRN doses are required for the same medication.

📌 Note: A medication order can only be split when it's first created. For an order that has already been created, the Add Part button doesn't appear.

To create a split medication order, follow these steps:

  1. Click Residents / Orders.

  2. Select the resident’s profile, then click Orders.

  3. Click Add, then choose the appropriate option.

  4. Next to Instructions, click Add Part to add a new medication.

  5. Enter all necessary details.

🤓 Tip: Check out our handy table below for more information.

  6. After entering time for the Routine, click Add Part to split the order.

  7. A second part is created where PRN medication can be added for the same order.

  8. Click Save.

  9. The new item appears in the resident’s Active Orders with a green flag awaiting approval.
